Executive Crisis Leadership Training & Workshops

Prepare executives and senior officials to lead through disruption with clearer authority, useful information and practical decision processes. HSS develops organization-specific workshops that connect incident-management concepts to the decisions your leaders actually own.

Build readiness around the leadership role

Senior leaders need to understand how policy, resources, communication and continuity decisions connect to operational response. HSS works with your leadership and preparedness teams to define learning objectives, review the operating environment and facilitate decision practice grounded in your plans.

This service supports public-sector senior officials, airport leadership, corporate crisis teams and other executives with high-consequence responsibilities. It complements HSS’s executive advisory and training and exercise capabilities.

Choose the workshop your team needs

  • Executive roles and policy-team readiness: clarify policy decisions, delegated authority, priorities, escalation and coordination with incident command and the EOC.
  • NIMS and ICS application for executives: build a shared understanding of command, coordination and senior-leader responsibilities using organization-specific examples.
  • Decision-focused scenario workshop: practice briefing, prioritization, resource choices and communications in a facilitated scenario.
  • Workshop-to-action support: capture unresolved issues and translate them into owners, decision tools and next-step priorities.

What a scoped engagement can include

  • Preparation meetings and review of relevant plans, delegations and known findings
  • Audience-specific objectives and an agreed session agenda
  • Participant materials, facilitator guidance and practical decision scenarios
  • Role, briefing, escalation or decision tools when included in the scope
  • A leadership action summary identifying priorities and further decisions

HSS tailors the engagement to the organization. The proposal identifies preparation, client reviews, delivery format, materials and follow-up. A workshop action summary is distinct from a formal exercise AAR/IP; specify a separately designed exercise when evaluated performance is the objective.

Prepare the right people and inputs

Include senior decision-makers and the operational, communications and preparedness leads who support them. Provide current plans, authorities, reporting arrangements and the leadership decisions you want to clarify. HSS can use in-person or instructor-led virtual delivery where appropriate; duration follows the agreed objectives and participation requirements.

Questions about executive training

Does a tailored workshop provide FEMA course credit?

Not automatically. A custom workshop applies concepts to your organization. If recognized completion of a named FEMA or state course is required, confirm curriculum, instructor qualifications, approvals, administration and completion documentation in the scope.

Does one course establish organizational NIMS compliance?

No. Applicable implementation and training requirements depend on organizational roles and obligations. A workshop strengthens practical readiness while required compliance documentation is verified separately.

Can leaders use their own plans and scenarios?

Yes. That is central to the preparation process. Unresolved governance questions are identified for client decision rather than presented as approved policy.

What affects price and preparation time?

The audience, objectives, level of customization, document review, scenario development, delivery arrangements, client review cycles and follow-up outputs.

How is this different from a keynote?

A keynote introduces a perspective to an event audience. This consulting workshop uses client preparation and agreed outputs to strengthen an organization’s capability. For conference and association sessions, explore Speaking.

Experience that connects leadership and operations

Stephanie Hunt, M.S., CEM, brings airport emergency-management leadership, FEMA Type 1 planning experience and executive advisory work. HSS’s commercial-airport executive tabletops and international aviation crisis-management training demonstrate the connection between doctrine, operational context and senior-leader decisions.

In the commercial-airport engagement, HSS reviewed emergency-management materials, developed facilitation content and documented findings from executive discussions of policy, coordination and crisis communications. The international aviation assignment included eight hours of Aviation Crisis and Disaster Management instruction and eight hours of Crisis Communications instruction, delivered on behalf of a specialized aviation crisis-management firm. These are examples of the preparation, delivery and applied discussion behind HSS’s leadership training.
